Introducing Fargo Chiropractor Dr. Mike Jorgensen

The Chiropractor To See In Fargo
I grew up in a strange world....I grew up in a chiropractic family.

My father, Dr. W.C. Jorgensen, was an incredible man. Due to that, we were blessed with exceptional health. We rarely got sick, never had ear infections, (until I submerged my head in a hot tub when I was 16), headaches, asthma or any other "common" childhood illnesses. Growing up I thought everybody knew how great chiropractic was for headaches. So my perspective on the world was quite different than almost everyone else my age. I witnessed and heard about so many positive, life changing stories on how my dad had helped people that it was something I felt called to do.

I originally was planning on going to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, where my dad attended. But several months before starting, my dad heard from a colleague about a new college just getting started in Irving, Texas. Parker College of Chiropractic was in it's third year and the southern culture really attracted me and I felt it would be a great experience with a difference in climate and people. I made some wonderful, lifelong friends and was truly thankful for such a wonderful learning and life experience.

My philosophy of practice has definitely evolved over the years.

It used to be that I was totally devoted to the restoration of the proper structure of the spine alone. That is still my primary focus but I look at my patients much differently these days. People are assaulted with many more stressors, toxicities and deficiencies these days than in years past. What they're eating or not eating, what they're bodies are deficient in and the toxins of their day to day lifestyle choices play such a huge role in the quality and quantity of their life that I felt that I had to address these issues in order to help them as much as possible. The best and worst examples of this were the death of my wonderful mother at the age of 52 from brain cancer and the loss of my father at 54 from congestive heart failure. Both chose to smoke, didn't practice the healthiest lifestyle and had gobs of stress. The result: early, tragic, painful and preventable death. Their lifestyles and their choices literally killed them. I have devoted my life and made it my mission to help lead people away from destructive lifestyle choices and choose wellness. There is no greater gift you can give yourself, your loved ones, God and the world than a vibrant, healthy and long lasting you! Think of the service to mankind and the effect you can have on your fellow man by being your best. We rob our future and that of our world when we abuse and neglect our greatest gift, our body. We truly are wonderfully and magnificently created.

I hope my skills, talents and contributions as a doctor can help as many people as possible restore and optimize their wonderful gift of life.

I married Beth Peterson in 1995. An infinitely patient young lady who found it in her heart to accept me and all my faults as well as my beautiful daughter Kristian, whom she has been a wonderful stepmother to. We have been blessed with two children of our own: Allison, who will be 11 shortly and Ethan who is 5. We were set up on a blind date by an employer of hers. He told her of a wonderful guy that he thought she'd like to meet. He couldn't make it on the date, so I went instead. Ha Ha. We enjoyed many a care free dates on the back of my motorcycle and on the dance floor at several country music locales where I impressed her with my courtship ritual. My love for country music as well as my penchant for picking up my guitar and serenading her soon won her over so I reeled her in and closed the deal shortly before Christmas of 1994. What she soon found out as the years went on is that I'm very passionate about my outdoor recreation, especially with anything that has a motor in it. Snowmobiles and motorcycles, motorcycles and snowmobiles are things that I really enjoy, especially with good friends. Music is still my first love though and my primary outlet is being one of the praise team leaders of my church which is Calvary United Methodist in south Fargo near the Osgood development. You'll find me most every Sunday on stage with my guitar in hand trying to warble out our best attempt at contemporary and classic christian music. It is a huge focus of my life and I feel so very blessed to have a great church family and place to use my musical gifts. Please join us on Sundays!

My focus on wellness over the past year or so has really re-doubled my efforts of being a role model first when it comes to my own health regimen.

I get adjusted weekly or every other week at least by my practice partner, Dr. Dave Martinson or my brother Dr. Tim Jorgensen. I've also made it a habit of walking on my treadmill for 30 minutes a day at least five days a week, doing strength training twice per week and I currently play on two racquetball leagues for maximum heart output. I've cut out a lot of grains and added more whey protein shakes in the morning, more fruits and vegetables and lean proteins which include organically grown beef and poultry. Oh yes, you'll catch me with a chocolate chip cookie in my hand more than I would care to admit as it's my main vice, but I'm working on that too! I supplement daily with Innate Choice Omega 3 fish oils and use Melaleuca's Vitality Gold multimineral/antioxidant/probiotic vitamins. As I improve my own health regimen I'm also trying to improve my families habits which is a bigger challenge as my kids have already formed some favorite food choices that are not as healthy. Incremental change is the key and plenty of support. My kids have received chiropractic care ever since being born and enjoy exceptional health. As I write this, my son Ethan just vomited in his bed as he was about to go to sleep! A perfect example of him being healthy. His body is marshaling it's defenses against some foreign invader and decided that it would be best to lose his lunch. We'll love him up, get some water in him and get him adjusted to stimulate his immune system. I trust that his body, innately knows how to handle this crisis and the best thing I can do is support it. There is no drug that will match his body's response to whatever it is that needs handling. Should something unforeseen arise where he needs crisis medical attention, I'll be the first one to the hospital and be thankful that they're there.

I hope this personal information about myself and my family has given you some insight into who I am and what I'm about. I hope it's made you feel more comfortable about giving our Fargo office a call to see if we might be able to help you or your family with whatever health or wellness issue you're facing or would just like to know more about. We look forward to helping you be your best you!

Dr. Mike Asks some important questions of interest to Fargo residents - Chiropractor Fargo Dr. Mike Asks...

How does headache medication find the headache?
It can't! Chiropractors know that when you ingest a drug and it enters your bloodstream it numbs or deadens your entire body. Chiropractic adjustments, on the other hand, are specific, targeted and delivered with precision.
Can a chiropractor heal?
There's never been a case in which a doctor (chiropractor or otherwise) has formed scar tissue, mended a broken bone or cured a headache. Only you can do that. Turns out you're the doctor! All I do is help remove interferences to your body's healing ability. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
